Having talked to many of the senior residents on the avenues ,many of whom who have lived here all their lives, I was able to determine that there was no living memory of when the avenue was last resurfaced. Hence , perhaps, the reason it had gotten in to such disrepair in parts . The poor condition had further deteriorated in particular in the past 2 years due to the various works being carried out on the Avenues ( water main replacement and meter installation, kerb dishing .)
Hench over the past year and a half there have been extensive efforts to get a commitment to resurface the avenues. Thank fully these were successful and DCC commited to resurface part of the road this year.
Thus it was a delight to see the heavy machinery arrive last Monday 10 August . Despite a burst water pipe, subsequent geyser and water rationing, the works were carried out in double quick timea and with little disturbance . By Friday afternoon the section of road between Doon Avenue and the top end of Ellesmere Avenue was fully resurfaced . Edgar Purnell Hooley himself would have been proud of the fine job.
Sincere thanks are to be given to Maeve, Kate and others who helped secure the resurfacing of the avenue.
We are aware of the poor state of repair of other parts of the avenue and there are ongoing efforts to secure a commitment to resurface the rest of avenue. We hope the ongoing efforts will bear fruit in the the not too distant future.
