Ellesmere and Adjoining Avenues were originally developed in the late 1800s and early 1900s . A number of key street architectural features remain from this era namely the lampposts, granite kerbing, and the cobbled sett gullies . Over the years these were bit by bit damaged, removed, neglected and covered over .
Over the past 5 years we have been slowly renovating these features . The lampposts have been repainted and the the damaged kerbs were fixed . We have also , slowly section by section, been unearthing the cobbled sett gullies from their tarmac tomb.
In recent week we made further progress in this endeavour with the assistance of Dublin City Council. They very kindly replaced the missing cobbled setts we identified on the Avenues Their great work is particularly evident on the corners of Ellesmere and each of the side Avenues . It is wonderful to see this part of our street restored.
We really appreciate the support that Dublin City Council have given us and the effort they took to work over a weekend to carry out the work.
