License granted by Irish film distributers nothing but a few technical difficulties stood in the way of the inaugural Ellesmere Street Cinema showing of Tim Burtons Corpse Bride
As the audience were ushered to their seats the smell of popcorn filled the air and Samhain smiled and bathed everyone in a balmy autumnal evening. However Samhain did not leave us without a trick; and equipment ,which hours before, had been working fine in tests and rehearsals , suddenly screeched and squealed. After 20 mins of tweaking, adjusting , a new pair of speakers and the odd heckle ,technical fairies were expelled . Everyone was ushered to their seats the movie got under way to a raucous cheer.
Popcorn, ice cream and sweets were in abundance and added to the theatrical feel of the evening.
Young and old appeared to enjoy the festively macabre yet jocular tone of the movie Corpse Bride. Laughs were a plenty and there was a loud cheer as the credits rolled.
While for some it was their first cinema experience and for others it was their first in 10 years either away they left content. Someone commented that the evening reminded him of the scene in Tournatores Cinema Paradisio where the village is brought together by a film in the central square. After that positive accolade it looks like it will be bringing the Ellesmere Village out on an annual basis.
